I have historically only bought intel but I was wondering which is going to give me more bang for the buck as far as gaming and light computing purposes are concerned. The G3258 looks like a great deal but would I be better suited buying a similar option with maybe more cores from AMD? My budget is in the $200 range which would include a motherboard as well. I don't really know much about AMD so I was wondering if someone could fill me in or give me a recommendation.

I was looking at that right before I saw your post. That is a deal if I ever saw one, I am seriously tempted to buy it.

G3258 will be good enough with a decent motherboard, and the stock cooler provided with that particular CPU is a little bit different. Which means you can push your CPU to 4Ghz on just the Stock Cooler.. As said by Darrin Lynch.

Humpty Dumpty was pushed.

I'd go with an Athlon II X4.  Cheap, overclockable, and more threads than the G3258.

QUOTE ME OR I PROBABLY WON'T SEE YOUR RESPONSE

More threads =/= better performance. Especially in gaming as most games aren't designed to run on more than 1 or 2 cores, with only a handful of more recent games utilizing 4 cores.

Also, if more threads meant better performance than AMDs FX series would dominate intel as they all have 8-cores (the 8xxx+ series).

Wtf. $100 for that. Why cant this happen in the UK? :(

VAT is a bitch, aint it :P
