CPU Bracket squishy double sided tape?

Go to solution Solved by Enderman,

The double sided tape was there so that you could stick the backplate on the motherboard for convenience while screwing the tower cooler from the other side. It is absolutely not needed and does not offer any additional cooling. If you can manage to hold the backplate in place with one hand, while counting the cooler with the other, you will be fine without any tape.

Hi there,

I have an old Antec Kulher 920 (fixed loop) that I am going to reuse on a home server.

The backplate (cpu) had double sided tape on it originally, to attach it to the motherboard back.

There is still a fair bit on there, just no more adhesive.

Do I need to replace it?

And if so, what do I replace it with?

Normal black double sided tape, or something like a thermal pad?

Something like this?

Thanks for your help

So you think I should pull off the tape and put thermal grease there?

Its a PLASTIC backplate, what would be the point?

Looks like this, when I first got it:
