Hi Everybody,

I just finished completing my new build. I installed Windows 8.1 Pro on my Samsung Evo 1 TB SSD , downloaded drivers, installed and then shut off.

Then I plugged in my 1 TB HDD and went into my bios to set up the boot order. 1 - SSD 2 - HDD 3 - Optical Drive

Now when I am in My Computer: I only see the SSD C: drive. I don't see anything else. When I go into Device Manager, I can clearly see the model type of both the SSD and the HDD.

What's going on??

I have been googling for many hours :( This error is weird!! OR maybe I am just dumb?

i think you should have plugged in the hdd when you were installing windows because it is windows that formats drives with NTFS but i dont see why it wouldnt show up AT ALL are you sure it's plugged in to power + data?

Thanks for the replies! I have been trying to do that :( The empty drive isn't coming up to let me assign it to a partition. This is what I see: http://i.imgur.com/eqnLxfW.png

That's normal. When you right click it (disk1, with the black stripe), you'll have the option to add a partition table and partition to it. (Usually along the lines of "new simple volume")

EDIT: I also do not see a black stripo (Unallocated, for wear leveling) on your 840 Evo. I recommend that you install Samsung Magician and set it up to enable overprovisioning for it.

D'oh! I see. Thank you so much :D

I was looking at the wrong thing (existing partitions)

The solution was to scroll down the window a bit and right click on Drive 1 and select New Simple Volume and follow the wizard.

Thank you everyone! Problem solved (I am a dummy. haha)

No problem! Windows' partition manager is quite confusing.

Did you see my edit above your reply? It's about the overprovisioning partition for the 840 Evo.

Thanks! I just followed your instructions and set the recommended OP on my SSD. Now that I have TRIM enabled and OP set, is there anything else I should do to my SSD?

Not really, you can go to OS Optimization and select whatever option you think is best in your case, and also enable RAPID if you desire so.

There's nothing you need to do though. Windows 8(.1) takes everything into account when it comes to SSDs. (Versus 7, where you'd have to disable defragmenting and en/disable certain options manually.)

Okay :) Thanks for your help!
