New Build Testing

Hey guys I am building a new computer for my cousin but he wants to build it with me. I want to make sure all the parts work before I have him come over and we build it. I get the idea behind setting it up on the motherboard box and stuff but is there any way to test the hardware to make sure it works without installing windows (incase he wants to see how that's done)? or a way to use my drive from my computer for testing?
