What is the difference between the 7000 series and R9 series AMD cards?

trainergames

Because my 7970 i had always had a random frame rate problem,i would be getting 60+ fps then out of nowhere it will drop to 10-15 fps for a few seconds,but after it died due to a leaky cooler i got a R9 270X,and i have not had the problem at all,just some screen tearing.

So i am wondering was something between the series,or did i mabye get a bad card?

Everything below a 290 (meaning 280x, 280, 270x) is basically just a 7000 series, rebranded (some very minor changes). 270X is a 7870 GHz rebranded if I am not mistaken.

Maybe drivers were improved in the meantime, or your 7970 might have been a bad one after all...

Well I just think it is weird that a 270x is running smoother than my 7970 ever did.

250X = 7770

260X = 7790

265 = 7850

270 = 7870

270X = 7870GHz

280 = 7950

280x = 7970GHz

290/290x = new silicone

AMD drivers have improved loads over recent months, that might be why 270X performs better. I've found my 7950 went from being satisfactory at 1080p ultra to baller. I can play watch dogs with the graphics mod on ultra without perceivable lag (approx 40fps, not too fussed by it though as it's a steady 40 not 55 dropping to 26 :P)

Maybe it was overheating?

EDIT: Are you using Mantle?

Idle if I am using mantle but I don't think it was overheating cause the temps never got past 75c while gaming, and 85c under msi kombuster stress test.
