I have the ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard, which developed a noisy chipset fan (believe that is the name, on the south bridge).  18 months ago I replaced the fan with a replica, and the problem was fixed.  A few months ago the problem reappeared with this new fan.

I found the same model motherboard on ebay for less than the cost of a replacement fan.  This mb however had a heatsink instead of fan on the chipset.  My naivety lead me to believe that this might have been a revision made by Asus.  However on receiving the board I am pretty sure it is aftermarket heatsink that another person has installed.

I am just wanting to check whether a heatsink will be sufficient in dissipating the heat. The link below seems to be the same as the one that is installed http://obrazki.elektroda.net/94_1234560246.jpg.  I have installed a 120mm case fan on the side panel to try and remove some of the hot air.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I would assume so yes. That is a large heatsink for a chipset and it is much larger than the original which should counter the lack of fan. As long as you have descent airflow in your case it should be fine.
