Hi guys ... you're kind of my last hope here ...

So .. I got a Samsung Syncmaster 2443bw on ebay but now I'm running into some kind of a weird problem o_O

It's a 1920x1200 24" display.

Every time I set the correct resolution in windows it's fine until I reboot the system.

On startup windows messes something up and resets the resolution to 1920x1080 -.-

When I go into settings to change it it even detects that 1920x1200 is the recommended res!

Short list of the other relevant parts:

CPU: i5-4670k -> intel hd 4600

Board: Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD4H (I hate this thing -.- for so many reasons)

the display is connected to the motherboard through an HDMI-to-DVI cable (HDMI on the board, DVI on the display)

I'm running win7

I already tried uninstalling+reinstalling the intel drivers and also installed the driver for the display itself.

Any ideas what might be causing this ?

It looks like that board has some other outputs -- does the problem persist if you use the DVI or VGA outputs? If you're not willing to try reinstalling your operating system, would you consider a fresh install on a small/spare drive you're not using?

Why do you hate your motherboard? I have the Z87X-UD3H and my biggest problem is the USB ports.

Thanks for replying! ^^

I have not tried other outputs on the mainboard because I don't have any cables that would be long enough ...

When I get home today I'll try DVI by putting the display under my table... if that fixes the issue I'll have to get my hands on a 5 meter DVI cable xD

I'm kind of suspecting HDMI to be the problem here as it doesn't officially support anything higher than 1080p ... so it resets everytime to stay within spec....

There are quite a few reasons for me to hate this mainboard ^^

First of all die USB3.0 ports tend to cause random incompatibility issues with simple stuff like flashdrives or external HDDs.

After about half a year the onboard soundcard stopped working and only output crazy loud noise.

That stupid UEFI bios doesn't recognize my USB mouse -.- so I have to use classic mode which I'd prefer anyway if it covered all the settings ... which it doesn't ...

Onboard fan-control barely covers the basics by only having 3 presets.

I'm sure there was some other stuff that I can't remember of the top of my head...

If you have all drivers and softwares for yout graphics card and monitor try to change resolution in yout software, not in screen resolution in control panel, but in softwares.

thx for the suggestion ... tried it ... but didn't help ...

I also just tried using DVI ... didn't help either....

My best guess is that the Intel Graphics driver is just broken ... tried an old 19" 1280x1024 -> same issue

Solved it now by putting in a Geforce 210 that I had collecting dust ^^

Connected the HDMI ... ZERO problems ... works perfectly now ... whatever Intel does .. they're doing it wrong xD
