Me and my friend started to put Windows 7 on his late 2012 imac, we made sure we did everything properly. We made the Bootable usb. We have watched loads if videos to make sure we know what we're doing but something went wrong.

After making the partition and rebooting, it said we has very an invalid boot drive, replace and press any key. I reinserted the memory stick and tried to press a key but it doesn't register. I'm using a hp keyboard (wired)

Somebody helllllppppppp, my friend is going to kill me!!!!!

I used this guide from apple when I installed windows 7 on my macbook pro late 2011: http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1583/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.7.pdf

Hope it will help you guys. Remember to not use illegal versions of windows since that can really mess it up for bootcamp and everything to work properly. And well, it's illegal... So if you want to do this properly, use a .iso downloaded from Microsoft's website/Microsoft's affiliates website (they do provide legit versions of windows 7, though you need a legit key for the OS. Just Google it and you'll find the links. I think you can find links for it on sevenforums.. maybe?) or use a legit bought windows dvd. Don't use a torrented windows copy. That will just mess with you and again, not legal and against forum rules.

If you have any questions, just ask. I'll try to answer them. But this was a while ago that I did so I may not remember how... :)

I've made several of the bootable USBs, and they're usually really difficult to work with.

Bootcamp usually screws up with them one way or another, so I just create them manually.

Oh, almost forgot. Back up your files.

1) Format the USB as FAT

Select the drive in Disk Utility, then go to the 'Erase' tab. Select "MS-DOS - FAT" and then 'Erase'. (Name it something like "Windows Install Drive")

If you aren't aware, this will erase all data from your USB.

2) Load Windows onto it.

Double-click on the ISO on your Mac, which will open it in a new Finder window.

⌘A to select all the files, ⌘C to copy them. Then, navigate to your Usb drive in Finder and then paste the files with ⌘V

3) Reboot!

Reboot into the drive. Hold down 'alt' as your computer reboots, and then select the drive. It should be named whatever you named it in step 1.

4) Install

Select the drive labeled "BOOTCAMP", and, if nessecary, reformat it to NFTS. Make sure this is an empty drive and not Macintosh HD.

That should work! Please reply if there are any issues, or the problem is fixed.
