i7 4790 OC?

Hi. 

I currently have the i7- 4790 on my system (yeah stupid mistake. should have waited another month for the 4790k release). 

Just wondering, how viable is this CPU for overclocking? 

Is it possible and is it any good?

It's not possible, that's the whole point of the K version. The K can overclock the non-K can't.

You can get maybe 200 more Mhz out of it at the max.

Altering the base clock of 100Mhz to MAYBE 105-108mhz, some become hugely unstable with only a little increase above 101mhz also..

 

Suggest 101mhz, then try 102mhz and so on....

Problem is if your 100MHZ baseclock goes up, some other components/internals you cannot control also use this higher frequency and don't play nice.

 

It won't go far, but as you cannot change the Multiplier thats expected.

Yup, that was a bad choice, you are not going to be able to overclock much due to the fact that it's a non-K series.
