Creating a cryptocurrency

Hey guys. So, basically, I want to make a cryptocurrency FOR FUN. I do not aim for it to have value and I don't really care if the code isn't as efficient as the ones coded in c++, but.. well.. my problem is that I don't know c++. I really only know Java enough to do it.. and lua but.. eh.. thats not a good idea if you ask me. 

 

Essentially, I want to create a cryptocurrency from scratch in Java.

 

I would try figuring out the c++ and "converting" it to Java.. but.. I really don't understand the c++ code well enough to do that. What would you guys recommend?
