Western Digital Black Issue

Go to solution Solved by Vader,

That is what I tried first.  No dice... unfortunately.

Unplug the SSD and try it in the sata port that the 2tb HDD is in. If it works, your sata / data port on the 2tb could of malfunctioned.

My secondary hard disk (WD Black 2TB [WD2003FZEX]) is no longer being recognized by my OS (8.1) or in the BIOS.  The drive is still spinning when I boot, but even after replacing the SATA cable I am getting nothing (thought it was worth a shot).  The drive is almost definitely not overheating as I have a lot of airflow through the case and AC in the house. Any ideas on how I might troubleshoot this or any ideas on what might have happened?

Thanks,

Jared

Go to disk management, and allocate the space and assign it a drive letter.

Thanks, but it does not show up in Disk Management.  This is not a new drive.  I have it partitioned between media storage/games, ubuntu, and windows 7, and only this morning has it stopped appearing as a drive after months of use without an issue.

Do you have an extra sata cable? Try moving the sata cable to a different sata port on the motherboard. If that doesnt work, try using a different sata cable.

I think that the port on the motherboard where the 2TB was plugged in was the issue.  Regardless, it works again.  Thanks for the help!
