is the cpu buggered

so i been helping out my brother in law fix his computer. the problem started on his first board, gpu was running fine for ages then all of a sudden the pci slot would not pick up the gpu we first thought it was the motherboard so it was rma and picked up a second one and same problem (both asrock boards) so we instead picked up a asus board and lo and behold same problem so we then put his gpu in my pc and they work we then thought it was the ram after spoting it not the motherboard so we used my gpu and ram and still the same problem the only thing we can think of is the cpu is busted

with a i3 3240

 

whats your thought people of this glory of a fourm because we are at a loss and are getting frustrated

funny thing is this has put us off intel now HAHA that 2 cpus he's had thats gone cock eyed and i've had a few gone bad on me as well.
