Hi,

My 4770k runs at 81°C max at full load on prime 95 after 10min, on OCCT it runs 90°C after 2 minutes, is this normal with an overclock to just 4ghz?

Max volt is 1.168V, oc is stable and it's cooled by a h100i.

Should i get a 4790k, im running Z87-GD65 gaming from msi.

please, DONT buy a 4790K, it'll be a TOTAL waste of money.

try reseating the cooler and reapply the thermal paste

If you already have the 4770k dont get the 4970k. If you want, you can put some new TIM between heatspreader and the cores. You could try to put some molten copper between there aswell^^

Your idle should be max 37C (ambient 22C) with that cooler. As suggested, try reseating cooler first. Don't use Prime. With adaptive voltage (or automatic, nothing touched) it will raise voltages too fast. OCCT is better but it seems that your cooler is reason for high temps more than clocks. And remember that its more volts that create heat, not clocks.
