Help picking a Macbook

iTalkTech376
Go to solution Solved by LapX,

Less than £1000 and using for school, internet browsing, light video editing

With that budget, you can only afford the less powerfull Macbook pro, it should serve all your needs tough. I would need input from other people to know if 4GB of ram is enough for light video editing but you can always upgrade it later in the Macbook Pro. http://store.apple.com/uk/buy-mac/macbook-pro?product=MD101B/A&step=config

An other choice is a Macbook Air, you can't upgrade it and it's going to have less (a lot less) storage because it uses an SSD but if you can store most things on your existing desktop having that fast storage is really nice.

http://store.apple.com/uk/buy-mac/macbook-air

Your choice for the size of display and memory but I wouldn't choose only 128Gb, I think it's not enough.

Let me begin by me saying that I want a Mac because of its design, the look of OSX and I don't want a windows laptop because some don't look the best and I want a change from windows. Ive already got a windows desktop and I need something I can take around with me so please don't start a war between PC and Mac because I think they are both really good, just give me a simple answer

I have a macbook pro (from 2011). I think the best bang for buck macbook is the 13" one.

Here is a link to it: http://store.apple.com/us/buy-mac/macbook-pro?product=ME864LL/A&step=config

Simply buy a 8 or 16GB upgrade kit like i did and it'll be fast :)

Also take note that it only has 128GB of SSD storage.

Please do everyone a favour and don't waste money on a Mac.

If you don't like Windows, that's fine! Install Linux onto it!

If you like the look of a Mac, get a more powerful laptop that looks like a mac.. It's not hard.

Hey.

But first... http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#Mac

You guys are crazy. You know you guys are self-destructive. There's a funny farm somewhere and it's got your names written all over it. But I'm gettin' outta here.

Some people can't use linux... And Mac OS is usefull for a bunch of things, my dad only uses mac these days because it integrates better with DJ applications.

The retina only has a higher resolution display, you don't need it, it's a luxury. The Macbook pro non retina will suit you fine.

Mac OS is *nix, it's similar to linux.

And not true, you can do anything with Linux.

Just get the cheapest 13" retina and then separately buy a 8GB kit from corsair (the one i used) and you shouldn't have to pay over 1000 pounds.

Retina is much better than 768p of the normal mac.

It's not user friendly enough. I made my sister try it and it was a complete and utter failure.

Really common, he specifically asked not to.  And FYI the high end macbook pro 15 inch is considered the best laptop as of now (of course not for gaming).

how does the pro look terrible and not perform? its rated one of the top three best (non gaming) laptops right now.  Many sites have it as number one...

It was Ubuntu, it wasnt much of a disaster but she hated it. She usually use a macbook.

Top lol, I used to have a 13 inch non-retina made any it was terrible. It had an i5 with HD4000 graphics and 8gb of RAM. It was terrible. It was too fat for a 13" and had one of the slowest optical drives around. The aluminium kept getting scratched. So before you come to judgements on how a product is, ensure you ask proper users first rather than look at somewhat biased reviews on the internet
