New computer not really working :/

So, I am by no means a novice, but honestly things like this really annoy me as I am not 100% sure what this issue is.

 

I am building my grandmother a new PC, I have a ASUS H81M-K H81 as the mobo and a PENTIUM G3240 CPU. Now, the problem is, I am not getting ANYTHING out of the PC. Nothing on the monitor, keyboard lights don't light up, and of course I don't have a piezo to plug in :/

 

I took RAM out and still nothing. As this is a very basic PC (mobo, CPU, single stick of RAM, SSD and a corsair CX430m) I figure it HAS to be the mobo. Problem is, I don't really have time to be wrong. I need to get this working and shipped next week for her birthday. My other thought is, possibly, it "needs" a BIOS update in order to work with the G3240? Not sure why it would... 

 

Anyone know if its just a dead mobo or if it "needs" a BIOS update I can't give it because I don't have a CPU that will get it to post.

Well, try the BIOS update. Though the fact that you don't get USB power either may also be a dead mobo or PSU.

From the ASUS website "*1.Before using the new Intel 4th Gen Core processors, we suggest that you first download the BIOS updater for new Intel 4th Gen Core Processors and then update the BIOS using this tool. 2.Due to iGPU limitation, 4K UHD display is not supported."

Yea I read that too. Problem is... I don't have a non Haswell 1150 chip. Sooooooooooo, that is my issue. I can't update BIOS without a CPU :/

Wait, aren't all 1150 chips haswell? Their are just two different iterations? Because if all Haswell chips are "4th gen" how could you possibly even update the mobo BIOS if none of the 4th gen CPU's will allow post.

Your CPU is Haswell Refresh.

I just realized that. I got a bit confused with the fact that pre Haswells were socket 1155 and I forgot there was the refresh. I am going to order a first gen haswell and hope it solves me problem.

Throw your 4770k in there and use it to update bios, if board still doesnt boot then it is something else.

Throw your 4770k in there and use it to update bios, if board still doesnt boot then it is something else.

I will try that as it looks like I can't return the CPU to newegg for a different one. Guess I have to either get this mobo BIOS updated with my 4770k or get a different mobo that will support the refresh out of the box.
