AC1900 Routers

Go to solution Solved by Anthony_95,

I don't know how the firmware of the r7000 actually is but I guess you will have all the functions that any router has today (probably more...). Searching the web, I have found people with problems with it, so go for it. :)

Hey guys,

So I am out the market looking for a new AC1900 router to replace my crappy cisco router. I have narrowed down to the WRT1900AC from Linksys and the RT-AC68U from ASUS. I don't know if the firmware is good on either of them and I am new to these stuff. *This is literally hurting my brain*

Thanks! :P

@Anthony_95

Thanks for replying! So this is my main concern, Linksys has the fastest chipset at 1.2Ghz, Netgear has the second fastest chipset at 1.0Ghz while the ASUS got a chipset at 800Mhz. However, the Linksys uses a Marvell Chipset instead of a Broadcom Chipset like the other two. I like the clean design and the simplicity of the Linksys alot. Netgear looks cool to but I don't get why they put the USB3.0 in the front while having that 2.0 at the back. ASUS is okay I guess, not the best though. Do you have any suggestions? :D Forgot to memtion, firmware is a big problem, too. I actually don't know which one has the best firmware and stuff.

You can compare rates of these three models on smallnetbuilder.com, is a really interesting site for all devices in a network. The appearance is not particularly important as the performance of the router for me. As is true that the firmware WRT1900AC have many more options such as OpenWRT or DD-WRT but is up to you what to choice. Personally if you do not need to use the advanced features of wrt1900ac, I would choose the netgear and get maximum performance.

I took a look at that website, from what I could see, it looks like the Netgear r7000 is the best. How is the firmware on the Netgear r7000 though? I don't need the extra features on the WRT1900AC. I still don't get why the Netgear can beat the WRT1900AC when the WRT1900AC has a faster chipset. Anyway, would you recommend the Netgear r7000 to me?

I have a Netgear R7000 and I have to say that it's a very good router combined with my 100 MBit/s glass fiber internet connection here in Germany. The Software is good too and it's stable.

But I would look if the Asus is the better choice because on Cnet the Asus just nailed the Wireless-N 2.4 Ghz range.

On Smallnetbuilder the Netgear wins.

Take the cheaper one I think. I owned my Netgear in a offer on Amazon for 130€.

Sorry for bad English I'm German :) I hope I could help you.
