I'll do my best to summarize the important bits, we've got a couple different threads right now but this is the only one that was general I/O and not a specific part of it.

-Google is releasing a gaming platform for developers to better implement leaderboards, achievements, and multiplayer. It integrates with google+ so you can see how you rank worldwide and among friends

-Google Play Music All Access launched, a subscription music service much like spotify.

30 day free trial

9.99 a month after, or 7.99 a month if you sign up for the free trial before June 30th

Integrates directly with the Music app, which also got an update

Only been using it for a day but it's awesome so far. Can use it in browser too if you don't have an Android device handy

-Redesign of Google+

Just go watch the I/O segment on this, it's pretty impressive but I'm still not sure it will convince my friends to move to plus no matter how much I like it.

-Google automatic photo optimizing

auto edits all the photos you upload (can turn it off, or turn just parts of it off) and it was actually pretty impressive what it can do. Not professional quality obviously but I won't be messing around in photoshop anymore.

-Google launched new, open license, photo and video compression formats

Can't remember the name of the photo format but it's a 31% decrease in image size with the same quality as a jpeg and support for transparency and animation

VP9 video format is a 63% decrease in size over h.264 with the same quality.

The internet just got better

-Updated search features, Google now like functions coming to desktop

-Updated Chrome using WebGL, basically you will soon be able to play REAL games in-browser with no plugins

-S4 is being released as a nexus device with vanilla android and updates as soon as they are released

-They gave everyone in attendance a chromebook pixel (have I mentioned I wasn't in attendance and I am a mad bro?)

-Updates to maps

-talked some shit about microsoft and oracle (subtly)

-Google Play Education is coming. Looks awesome. If you're k-12 enjoy whats coming on that front.

I think that covers it, this was just a general overview. If you have some questions about specifics just ask and i'll cover them best I can, you can always watch the whole Keynote on youtube but it's 4 hours long so I won't blame you if you don't.

This is what I'm most excited for, if it means what I think it means. This will make HD video on youtube more accessible for people with slow internet?

not just on youtube but that's were it will be implemented first. Google is being very awesome about this, they've made both formats open domain so they are free for anyone to use without express permission. I would expect this to take over as the biggest video format going forward, h.265 may have better performance (we don't know yet) but it will be proprietary.

So I tried out the new voice search on Google. Pretty cool, although the "OK Google" thing doesn't seem to be working for me...?

Google Play Music and Google+ both look really nice now too. :D

Google Desktop search updates actually haven't been rolled out yet so that's probably why "Ok google' isn't working haha

I haven't got it yet either... just give it some time, thisi is the world's most popular search engine after all. The new versions of G+ and Play music are working perfectly though (even though I'm not supposed to be using music and had to activate it through VPN ).
