not too interested in a clip on or desktop mic since I'll be bringing these to my friends house where often only a bed is available

Then if you can stretch to Kingston HyperX headset that is the only one I can recommend. The usual gaming headsets sound as good as $20 headphones.

My friends have them, they are horribly uncomfortable and another friend actually had the drivers melt. (he was playing them quiet, but it ramped up and ruined them.)

I've had no problems with mine at high volumes, but I'll admit, after long use they make your ears hot. (Great in the winter though.)

They don't actually touch your ears.... I owned them.

I tried the razer kraken once, the drivers were touching my ears.

so did i, the drivers are not deep at all, they touched my ears and it was annoying, on top of the bad sound quality, and the headphone sound leaking into the mic so anyone can hear what you can hear when you speak, and the bad earpads
