I'm hoping this posts correctly because I've never posted a poll on this website.

I think it would be absolutely mind blowing to have power supply options out there that were designed from a modders perspective where the cable outputs were changed to face the motherboard tray.  Plugging in your cables would be done from the right side of the case where you do cable management already, and this would also aid in the problem of dealing with all of those messy cables in the bottom of your nicely modded interior.

Obviously in order to accomodate such a power supply one would either have to mod their own case (could effect structural integrity) or perhaps companies like CORSAIR.. cough cough, might be candidates for testing these ideas.

I began some modding of my own designs, but I have nothing finished as of yet to show.

I wanted to post this just to see where the interest is on an idea of this sort, and if it already exists just shut me up and point me in the right direction.

Comments good and bad are all welcome!

Edit: I posted this in general for the purposes of views, and I feel it's just a general conversation piece.  If this is found in error feel free to move ;)

We already have a few different ways of dealing with cable management. PSU shrouds and covers, managing the cables directly and neatly through the nearest grommet/hole, separate PSU compartments (Air540, Enthoo Primo)... I'll say it's an interesting idea, so yes why not. Though it is still simpler to retain the current designs for cases and PSUs, and simply manage it like we currently do.

I voted yes. The cleaner the look the better in IMO.

It would be hard making a PSU that angles to all cases without having an extension.

My System Specs: (Short list) i7 4770k, GTX 780, many SSD's, a 2 TB HDD(deceased :( ), Corsair 650D. Full list: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/kchriz6097/saved/8dh7YJ

Upgrade Plan: Acquire some Black Noctuas then add 16 or 32GB of 2133MHz memory

I mean no offense by this but I'm unsure of what you mean?

What I meant was that not all cases have PSU grommets in the same place so you can't make a right "angled psu" that is universal without making up some janky solution.

Edit: also there is the fact that it would be sticking our through the grommet leaving no space behind the tray.

I said yes and no.... How much would it cost me???

As far as cost goes I think it would break down fairly simple.

R&D behind anything new that comes out is always a factor, but that doesn't effect much in terms of new and improved power supplies that come out these days.  Same goes for just about any hardware that comes out that is new and innovative.

The concept behind this type of power supply is fairly simple in that the overall dimensions of an ATX power supply might shift to a more wider foot print in the case but shorter in terms of front to back view in the case.  The power input and switch at the rear would have to be re-designed to be place on the left side which could either result in a different PCB mounting (which would be almost an overall change in internal design) or just a simple internal extension and a different exterior for the power supply case.

For those of us who like to mod, it might not be a stretch to cut out the small section needed to accompany the new cable through put, but in the end I'd think a new style of PC case would be in order.

Long story conclusion here is that I think any astronomical price change from the old style to this style would be absolutely ludicrous.

So you are designing something like this?

Its all looks these days

I figured that's what you meant but i just wanted to be sure. You're correct about this, and thats why for some older cases it may not be a good candidate, but to be clear there would most definately have to be some sort of offset (spacing rather) for how the cables plug into the power supply and then turn into the cable management area.

I think the concept of the "plugs" not extending out into the cable management area would be the best idea allowing the cables to turn into the cable management section naturally.

The idea for this is probably only a necessity for those of us who maybe just don't like to see all those cables down there, to guys who like to mount RAD's in the lower section but run into cable obstruction issues. It's one of those things that kind of fits into the niche of modding anthing in a PC. Is it needed? Nope, things work just fine as they are, but it definately provides an interesting and great looking solution in theory.

So you are designing something like this?

Am I working on model? Yes, but I do not plan to be a "vendor" of any sort. I've contacted a few vendors with the concept though.
