AMD Catalyst Installer freezing while detecting hardware

Hey there,

 

Got a weird problem with AMD's Catalyst installer. I've been trying to update my drivers for a while now as my R9 290 is defaulted to underscanning for some reason (i.e. there's a black border around my display). I managed to install the latest driver using Device Manager and installing it through there, but if I use any setup from AMD that involves their detection driver checking for my hardware, my entire display freezes and I have to restart. Often times this crash will end up re-enabling my HD 4000 as well, and that causes a black screen when my OS loads in, and I have to disable my HD 4000 through safe mode before I can get it working again.

 

I've tried a host of different things to try and remedy this - lots of driver uninstallations and "AMD driver clean ups" later and the problem still persists. I kind of need Catalyst Control Center to be able to fix this underscanning issue, and just in general for my overclocking settings etc.

 

Any insight would be greatly appreciated,
