After some years without needing one (since colege days), I find myself in need of buying a new laptop (my old one is too slow).

I need it mainly for Office 2013 software and internet browsing. I don't plan to use it for gaming or anything demanding (maybe ocasional ProShow video making).

My desktop PC has an SSD and I can't really go back to HDD, so I would like taht to be included.

Screen size: doesn't need to be big, I prefer light weight and slim look (I like the Acer Aspire S7, for example, but it's way over budget). Since I'll have to work with Excel and Word a lot, I don't want it to be too small, to save my eyes and not have to constatly scroll. But nothing too big: light and slim.

The budget would be around 500-600€.

I think you missed the above. 600 euros is $811. The Z book and all other workstations are far above the budget he set. May be able to get a lower end Latitude, thinkpad 14 or HPs competing offering (sorry, have not kept up with their low end business laptops).

Could also look at Eurocom and see what they offer, but with an SSD, you are going to be above budget.  Basically, you are not going to get a quality laptop that will last more than a couple of years for 600 euros. The budget just is not there.

That's way overkill for my needs. And overbudget...

Over budget is fine, but it is absolutely not overkill. The build quality is the the best in the industry. You won't need an i7 or a quadro or likely a TPM, but you get these things with a well built machine that no consumer level machine can compete with (that is since dell stopped maxing the XPS line on the Precision chassis).

HP Zbook.. Nuff said

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/workstations/zbook-15.html

it's a bit pricy but im in love with this laptop..

Have you even read the first post? Office 2013 and a budget of 500-600€. How does the Zbook qualify as a recommendation in this situation?

@Over You could check out the Lenovo Ideapad Flex 14. The ones with i3 CPUs should fit your budget, needs and a model with a A8 CPU sports even a 256GB SSD ( 14" display, not too heavy, SSD).

Never tried them, and never going to. The price does not line up with the hardware no matter how great the build quality is, especially when compared to machines that are built for content creation, like the Dell Precision, HP Zbook, and Lenovo Thinkpad W series.

Yeah well for laptops I would not say that but each to their own. I can see why you would find that though... Their pricing is steep tbh.

Would not say what? The part about the price being too much no matter how good the build quality is?  If so, that may be different if they had something special in build qualiy, but they do not. Any thinkpad, latitude, precision, or zbook has just as good if not better build quality, with better performing components for the price, not to mention most if not all of the PC laptops already mentioned have removable batteries meaning you do not need to send it in to replace them. Just order the battery, recieve the battery and put it in. For those that use Apple for video or photo editing, you can get better (all be it lower reslution) colour accuracy from Dell (premiercolor on the M6800+) and dreamcolor on the Zbook 15 and Zbook 17. For CAD persons, you can not even get a mobile workstation from Apple. (edit just for clairiy, I have herd that the apple batteries are integrated, and thus not replacable).

The fact of teh matter is, all they have going for them is the OS and maybe build qualiy. The OS can be hacked onto any other intel laptop pretty easy, and the build quality may not be special, and would be better if tested against other CC laptops.

No, I was referring to the price of their laptops even when taking into consideration the build quality.

Also, you have clearly never used a Mac extensively...

EDIT: This is clearly turning into a pointless argument. It is your right to not like their products. I have no problem with that, so please respect that other people have different opinions so that we can stop this argument as it really is not helping.

You are correct, and that is never going to change. You can always get a better system (hardware wise) than apple offers, even when you taje into account the proice being higher or lower than mac. (Just a hint, try getting a Quadro on a macbook. It can not be done.)

Argument? If you see it as that, then fine.  We have already addressed the OPs question, and guided him to the best solution (a low end business class laptop). (Also, you started it  (see post #7). Apple does not offer anything close to a workstation laptop like Dell, Lenovo, and HP do. It is fine for things that don't need quadros or certified drivers, but there are industries that do and apple will not cut it there.)
