What the... What?

So this weekend I went to use my trusty AOC 2236Vw, and I couldn't get into the OSD (it was locked for some reason). So after about 5 minutes of trying to remember how to turn it back off, I remembered how to (power button and one of the other ones), and I turned that off. I know that I (nor anyone else for that matter) could have turned that on. Wierd.

 

Then I noticed this weird humming noise of sorts. I thought it was my speakers buzzing a little, so I switched inputs to one I know had no output. But it was still there. So I stopped all of the fans in my PC and took the power cable out of the HDD (thank god Windows 98SE is so damn forgiving). But it was still there. So I power cycled my monitor, and I noticed that when the backlight kicks on, the humming starts.

 

What on earth is going on with this thing? Personally, I think the power supply is going, backlight is going funky, and/or the button control board is acting up (possibly a combination of all three). What do you guys think is up with it? And how long do you think it has left (assuming I use it on the weekends all weekend)?

Yeah, it will work fine, no worries

 

In essence, the transformer converts high voltage electricity into oscillating magnetism and then back into electricity, but at a lower voltage.

My PVR does the same thing; it makes a buzzing sound caused by vibrations when it's on, this is because since the magnetism inside the transformer is strong, it has either shook loose from it's original mount or gotten too close to the casing that it has started to vibrate against it. That is what caused it in my PVR, anyway. There's no fix for it unless you want to delve into your monitor, and risk breaking it.

Naw, you're good. Come to think of it, a heatsink did fall on the top of it (not on the screen, but actually on the top of the bezel when I was listening to music, it fell of the shelf and nailed it). :rolleyes:
