I was just wondering when everyone upgrades whenever I see something new I get that urge. My system is fairly new to me a year and a half old but it has some dated parts like a amd 6100 processor and 970 motherboard and how many of you are just into computers just for the hardware

Just for the hardware? Please explain.

I usually get a new PC once every 5 years and upgrade parts every 18 months(not always)

You might want to look into faster Processors or better GPU... there isn't much else to "upgrade" in a PC.

I mean just for having the best hardware they can buy I already upgraded my GPU to a r9290 when it came out waiting for the corsair gpu bracket so I can water cool it maybe I was thinking of going Intel to help save in future upgrades no sense in upgrading in a dead platform.

I bought my PC in 2012 and did not upgrade a thing yet, hell, I artificially downgraded by killing a RAM channel by accident. But it still works ;P

I probably will upgrade this or next year because I still run on a GTX570, and that 1.25GB of VRAM is not enough nowadays.

It depends. I originally started with a mid end gpu and a hdd because i didn't have the money for an ssd or a better cpu and I invested in getting the best cpu I could have (an i7 2600 in my case). This is because the cpu is the hardest part to upgrade since you need to swap the motherboard most of the times too, whereas gpus, drives and ram can be just swapped out and replaced easily. The year after I got an ssd and this year (the pc being 3 years old) I got a new gpu. I never felt the need to upgrade my cpu, especially since there have not been any significant upgrades in performance in the last 2 generations, and now that I have a new gpu I probably will only upgrade when that gpu costs 1 third of what it costs now to do crossfire. I plan on buying a new pc when it becomes too slow, which will probably be in 4 or 5 years.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨
