Hi everyone,

Just a quick question

I am doing a build as some of you may know, originally I was planning of getting a 4770K, but now I have been following the 4790K.

For you Peeps living in Australia when do you think that processor will be here in Australia? I am planning to do the Build around 27th-29th of June but I am ready to wait a couple of days.

I have the Asus Maximus VI Formula motherboard and yes that board is Compatible with the 4790K.

But my question was, would I have better luck of getting a good 4770K as opposed to the 4790K referring to the "Silicon Lottery"

Anyway so do you people think that is there much difference between the two?

I will be using this System for but more video editing and Photo editing and  some gaming

The difference are: Sligthly less power hungry, running less hot due to a better TIM, being able to achive higher overclocks due to lower temps. Also it's like 500 mhz higher clocked out of the box.

Is that worth a premium to you? Yes? Get the 4790k. No? Get the 4770k.

Personally I'd get the 4790k because I like to do some fun overclocking and because Devil's Canyon just sounds baller.

PCPer is saying 12-14% more performance at stock speeds. The chip he got actually was horrible, from the 4.5Ghz boost he could only get it to 4.7 @ 3.4v or somewhere around that voltage, I think the voltage was actually a littler higher. So millage may vary but I would stick with the 4770 if you already have one. Thats what I'm doing.

As far as better luck, no, more performance due to the already higher boost clock, YES

AFAIK they're going to be the same price. So. There isn't really a premium.

Exactly. So go with the better one ;)

I highly doubt the silicone lottery will be any different and it's supposed to handle heat better. So. That alone is a plus.

@LittleKid

From what I heard the 4790K is pretty OP, even without any OC it beats the hell out of the 4770K.

It really depends on what the prices are going to be; Intel intends on the 4790K being at the same price point, but living in Canada I know that $350 is not a unrealistic price for these new LGA1150 flagships even before tax. So before you debate whether the Silicon Lottery will favor you, you might want to consider the price of the chip outside the US and the fact that you'll have to wait out the whole summer.

I personally am interested in seeing the results that the 4790K can net us, but at this point I'd probably settle for an existing Haswell i5 because DDR4 is coming out and I'd hate to overspend on Devil's Canyon and Z97 only to find that DDR4 brings a huge improvement over existing platforms. Let's hope that Intel continues the Devil's Canyon legacy in Broadwell and beyond.
