So, my dad wants me to get him a small NAS from which he can read all his work documents on the fly but also run the mayority of the programs he need out of it, the thing is, this would be mostly over wireless and not always on the same computer.

I know NASses work pretty well for documents, but I'm not sure for programs and I don't know what to tell him

My doubts are:

1) Is it possible to run the programs out of the server in any computer he wants (Mostly the office suite and some accountancy programs).

2) Would he experience pausible lag??

I don't know about running office off a NAS, I think it probably would not respond well to that, if it would even install.

And yes, I bet there would be lag.

typically when a nas is not in use it hibernates, so when you first go to access anything on it there's a delay and then performance picks up once all the discs have spun up.

Yeah, i also didn't thought the suite and the NAS could live together well.

What about some accountancy programss??, they are mostly calculators

Another question, if I run the program of the server to another computer, would the program ask me for validation, or would the validation keep stored in the NAS??
