Todays problem Screen turning off randomly

Go to solution Solved by Apemanonline,

Friend gave me this one of many test cards he keeps around

Device-1: NVIDIA GT218 [GeForce 310] vendor: Samsung Co driver: nouveau
   v: kernel arch: Tesla bus-ID: 03:00.0 temp: 46.0 C
Display: wayland server: Xwayland v: 24.1.10 compositor: kwin_wayland
   driver: gpu: nouveau resolution: 1920x1080~60Hz

It works i get a picture and it doesnt keep turning it self off at random and the existing drivers have no issue with it. So ill stick with this and keep saving my pennys till i can repair my main system.

Many thanks everyone that helped. special thanks to sauron

I turned off all the power and sleep settings i can find.

My pc is built from scrap all worked and seems to be ok best can tell so im guessing it a setting somewhere.

This is the most likely culprit, being a 15 years old graphics card it could be on its way to the grave or poorly supported by either wayland or nouveau. You can try using the old proprietary driver following these instructions:

https://unix.stackexchange.com/a/788209

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

So i fired up time shift run it back to this morning. And low and behold the error went so something between turning the pc on and watching you tube and answering emails and watching videos did something to my pc.

At the moment it all run fine with no issues so its something that downloaded between this morning and when the issues annoyed me enough to post for help.

Any logs that would make sense to total nub i could look at and see what caused this?

Jusr for reference my main pc died magic blue smoke and the replacement parts are out of budget so this pc all I got I know its old and knacked and probally wasnt any good when new but its what i got. (And as Im starring down the the big 60 Im not keen on anyone thinking old mean useless and disposable.)

seems like an outdated link in the post, try the instructions on the repo page itself

https://launchpad.net/~kelebek333/+archive/ubuntu/nvidia-legacy

Quote
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kelebek333/nvidia-legacy
sudo apt update

then keep going from step 3 in the stackexchange post

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

I'm not sure what you mean, the gpu name clearly shows up when running lspci or whatever you used to generate the spec list above...?
