Unexplainable Stuttering

Go to solution Solved by Randymcflanderson,

ok so i somehow fixed it and i have no idea why this even fixed it , i was running 2x16gb corsair ram kit so i had 32gb total tried reseating which didnt do anything then i went to test an older 2x8gb kit also corsair same speed which I had the same issue, i also tried swapping the slots that they were in as well and that didnt work either. I said fuck it and threw in my 32 gb kit back into the slots they were in originally and decided to throw in the 16 gb kit in the other slots just to see what would happen and it started working properaly again? i wasnt hitting my ram limit not even close but for some reason this works. So i guess im glad i fixed it im just unsure why that fixed it.

A couple days ago my pc started having these periodic stutters. It happens no matter what im doing on my pc , weather it be in the browser or playing games weather or not those games are demanding. Havnt had any issues prior and havnt changed any components since a little less than a year ago when i threw in a 4070 super into it. Iv ran a virus scan, tried reseating ram, uninstalled a bunch of program, turned off all overlays i could think of. One thing i have noticed is when im playing games i do notice the gpu 3d utilization drop a bunch and then shoot back up when its done lagging, dont notice anything in task manager when im doing stuff that isnt gaming related im just really stumped on what the issue might be. Thought it was driver related so i updated graphics drivers since they were a few months out of date and that didnt help either. also updated windows and made sure there wasnt anything updating in the background. I also turn off any peripheral software thinking that might be the culprit. Also no heating issues from what i could tell. In some games if there online the ping will also spike a bunch but im not to sure if that is related to the system freezing up.

What's the rest of your hardware?

Have you tried monitoring GPU and CPU utilization while in game using something like Intel PresentMon?

Have you had a look at temps? Are you still using an HDD?

Only thing I can think of is that either it didn't run in dual channel before, for some reason, or it wasn't running with stable clocks or timing. Could double check with CPU-Z, but since it works now, I can understand if you don't want to touch it again 😉
