Budget (including currency): €450 to €500

Country: Netherlands

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mainly for MSFS2024 and Fusion 360. Also some Minecraft and video editing (Filmora).

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Current PC:

CPU: Intel Core i5 13500

CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 Digital Black

Mobo; MSI B760-P PRO WIFI DDR4

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 3600MT/s 2x8GB + Corsair Vengeance 3600MT/s 2x16GB

GPU: Inno3D RTX 3070

Case: Montech XR

PSU: MSI MAG A850G PCIE5

I'm currently looking to upgrade my PC, focused on the GPU. I have a lot of problems with 3D rendering and I think the problem is with the GPU (and the amount of VRAM). If the problem could be something else, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I found 2 choices for a new GPU:

XFX Speedster SWFT Radeon RX 7700XT 12GB

€433

https://nl.pcpartpicker.com/product/97kH99/xfx-speedster-swft-210-core-radeon-rx-7700-xt-12-gb-video-card-rx-77tswftfp

XFX Swift OC Radeon RX 9060XT 16GB

€433

https://nl.pcpartpicker.com/product/DRYfrH/xfx-swift-oc-radeon-rx-9060-xt-16-gb-video-card-rx-96tsw16bq

I'm not sure which of the two to buy, the 9060XT has more VRAM and has higher clocks. But according to UserBenchmarks the 7700XT is superior in multiple tests.

In real world gaming the 9060 XT 16GB is actually sliiiightly faster than the 7700 XT.

I would take the 9060 XT 16GB due to the VRAM as well.

How the 9060 XT 16GB compares to the 7700 XT in fusion 360, I dont know.

Userbenchmark is highly unrealiable

Here is a 18 game average at 1080p and 1440p by Hardware Unboxed using high or ultra settings.

Unfortunately neither of these cards in your budget are a worthwhile upgrade.

Anything under a 5070 Ti/9070 XT (imo) would make sense.

And if the issue is with 3D rendering, AMD is not what you want.

Please don't use userbenchmark

Unfortunately, these cards were the only ones I was able to find in my budget. Just have one question, why not AMD for 3D rendering?

I would save your money then. You're paying a large amount of money for whats really only a sidegrade.

AMD cards don't have CUDA - thats a big step down in 3D modeling performance

Nvidia just does it better and lots of software is optimized for the CUDA cores.

AMD is good for flat out gaming performance.

What Nvidia card would you recommend? I know prices are changing fast, but imagine a budget around €650 or something. I might be able to move some money around and get it within a couple of weeks. What are some good options? I saw the RTX 5070 around that price point (cheapest at €609 for a Gigabyte WINDFORCE OC SFF https://nl.pcpartpicker.com/product/PxG2FT/gigabyte-windforce-oc-sff-geforce-rtx-5070-12-gb-video-card-gv-n5070wf3oc-12gd

As I mentioned, I wouldn't get anything below a 5070 Ti.

It just doesnt make sense when you have a 3070.

Yes, I also agree that the cards you've picked don't make sense as upgrade. You will never feel any real world difference from your 3070 with either of those cards, specially if you're using the new DLSS in games even at 1440p. 7700xt might be a downgrade in some ways consider the FSR vs DLSS situation atm and I assume you're not still on 1080p.

For Fusion 3D, I don't really think your VRAM would bottleneck you. Have you tried to monitor the usage and see if it's actually even filling up? Fusion 3D is a CPU heavy software

So just wait and get more money for a future upgrade that makes more sense or better yet just keep at it with the 3070.

You may be better served dropping in a better CPU, like a 13700 or 14700.   The 13700 is roughly 30% better in Fusion 3D from what I can find.

That's a decent choice. 12GB of VRAM, the latest DLSS and lower power consumption.
