Getting my sons a starter gaming PC. Looking for a prebuilt system. At around $400 usd can I beat these specs? Or is this a decent deal worth considering?

(I know the memory isn’t the best I can upgrade later)

Specifications

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X (8-Core, 16-Thread) - 3.60
    GHz
  • Graphics Card: Dedicated NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 -

Its actually not that bad, especially considering the prices on RAM and GPU's now'a'days.

This system will definitely play games at 1080p and its a very balanced system.

To give this system some further oomph down the line, a BIOS update and a Ryzen 5600x would do well and possibly a GPU upgrade to a 3070 or something similar, depending on the PSU in the system of course.

I would be so happy if this was a system I got as a kid for a starter system, thats for sure! 🙂

upgrade your memory ASAP ,
you can re-sell your 2x8gb 2400MHz kit for maybe  $50 and get 3200MHz or 3600MHz/cl16 2x8gb kit at around $70-80
it will cost you almost nothing and it will help the 3700x´s gaming performance a lot even with the card like rtx 2060 .
slow memory is the n1 ZEN 2 performance killer .

other than that it´s a very solid entry level 1080p gaming/all purpose system .

i7 8700K , Z370 K6 FATAL1TY , GTX 1080Ti rog strix , NOCTUA NH-D15S ,
2x16gb DDR4 3200MHz/cl16 , FRACTAL R5 window , EVGA G3 750w gold ,
480gb m.2 NVMe WD SN350 + 500gb SAMSUNG EVO 850 ,
creative sound blasterX AE-5 Plus , MSI Optix G241 , WINDOWS 10 PRO
