I need suggestions for a new laptop. I'm looking for a laptop that does well with 3d modeling. I know a desktop is the best platform for 3d modeling and I have one, but I'm in the market for a laptop anyways so may as well get one that I could use for my classes. I've looked at the Asus n550jk and the Lenovo y50, but I don't know if I can install windows 7 on either of them. Thanks!

Sorry, forgot to add that. I'd like it below $1,500, but I'm willing to hear suggestions slightly higher than that.

I think you'll be fine with a Mac because all of AutoDesk's, Adobe's, and The Foundry's software is Mac compatible and at least in Adobe's case it was Mac-only at one point.

I personally love this MacBook Pro with Retina Display. It's around 13" and it boots ass (see what I did there? kicks ass? never mind.) It costs exactly $1499 and it is pretty well balanced in all categories.

If you want to go more processor focused you can get an i7 in the MacBook air for around the same price. Same for storage or memory focused, but for both of those you could  still afford a MacBook Pro. If you want to go slightly over, you could get a better processor in the Pro Retina for around ~$100-$200 more.

If you're seriously averted to Macs, I'd suggest something along the lines of an IdeaPad Yoga or a T440s, (maybe an Aspire S7?) but keep in mind they will be much bulkier and may not have the same battery life.

I am definitely not against Macs (I owned a macbook pro for a couple of years). My only reason for prefering a Windows 7 machine is because I've learned all the hotkeys for Maya on Windows (and the hotkeys for Mac are slightly different from what I' ve heard) AND I would like a computer that I could do some light gaming on. I will look into the Yoga, T440s AND macbooks. Thank you for your great suggestions.
