If you have nothing important on the drive then yeah it's easier to reinstall it but on new drive if it was indeed disk issue.

 

I would troubleshoot first to find problem then make decisions because other option you could clone your old disk to new disk and continue from there.

Just decided to clone it all onto my copy of kubuntu. Luckily they were both 2tb drives and didn't have a lot on.
