Generally speaking, brands don't make much of a difference. Either they work or don't. There's some level of QC and testing done by all manufacturers, no matter what from time to time you'll still get a bad one fresh out of the packaging. Pretty rare, but it does happen. Most any cables regardless of type I still use Monoprice. IMO best bang for your buck. The only times you have to be a little selective with HDMI cables is when you get to ~20+ feet distances. Especially if you're doing 4K HDR and/or >60fps and/or ARC/eARC. Proper fiber optic HDMI cables are recommended for longer distance runs. Shorter cables, should mostly always work regardless, but some older HDMI cables will act weird with higher resolutions/bitrates. Longer HDMI cables are often 'one way,' meaning there's a specific source and display end to the cable, but not all, just check the product info. If the cable says it can handle 4K, 8K, HDR, ARC, etc, it likely will. If there's no mention of resolutions or anything like that, find a different one.

HDMI have a certification system for retail cables. At least that can give you some confidence the manufacturer did some work on the cable even if it doesn't in itself guarantee they're all 100% fully tested. https://hdmiforum.org/specifications/ultra-high-speed-hdmi-cable/

This confused the hell out of me when I first saw them. Turned out they're hybrid optical cables. Data is carried optically, with power carried from source electrically, hence the directionality.
