So, I just had a prolonged power outage, which highlighted the need for a new UPS... but not for our PCs.  The computers already have functional UPSs, but my mother was using her Bernina 880 Plus (which technically refers to itself as a sewing computer, not a sewing and embroidery machine) to run a pre-programmed embroidery pattern when the power out happened, mid-program.  Without time to properly shut it off, it lost its place, and so the embroidered piece was ruined.  This means my mother has to either hand-unpick all of the thousands of stitches it had already done before running it again from the start, or just tossing the valuable fabric and starting over from scratch.

It occurs to me that it MIGHT be possible for a UPS to work with that sewing machine, to give my mom a chance to shut it off properly if this ever happens again in the future.  What I cannot figure out, though, looking at the Bernina website for the 880 Plus, is how robust that UPS needs to be.  I might be able to figure out the wattage with certain tools, but I also imagine it might require a different sort of UPS than a computer would... or would it?

Anyone have any ideas how to figure out what I actually need, here?

I'd say you probably better off with a home battery backup, especially if you need the machine to keep running during a long blackout.

Example: EcoFlow, etc

To find an appropriately sized one for your needs, I recommend you find out its power draw under use with something like a kill-a-watt or some other power measurement device. I don't see that you'd need a specialized UPS or anything for that machine, just one that's of good quality and can power your 880 Plus for enough time to safely shut things down.

That would be EXTREME overkill for what I'm going for.  She doesn't need to keep the machine running -- she just needs time to shut it down properly so it saves its position.  And $3000 (the cheapest EcoFlow I could find) is a bit above my Christmas budget, this year.

Yeah, if you buy the $3000 one.

Anywho, if you feel like doing it UPS way, feel free.
