CPU Upgrade question

Go to solution Solved by Bwithnewcast,

I would discurage you from upgrading to that cpu, the 9950x3d is litterly burning up and dying because some funky pbo they havent fixed

Hi, Sorry if this question has already been asked, but I have a question about upgrading my current CPU.

First here are my current PC specs.

MOBO: MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI

CPU: Ryzen 7 7700X

GPU: Radeon RX7900 XT

PSU: Corsair RM1000x (1000W)
RAM: G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo (64GB)

My Question,
I am considering upgrading my CPU to a Ryzen 9 9950X3D 16-Core Processor.
and from what I understand is that I just need to upgrade my BIOS and then install the new CPU.
My MOBO specs list the Ryzen 9 9950X3D as compatible but I was wondering if my current B650 MOBO I have can get the full benefits out of the new CPU or would I need to

upgrade to the X670 or X870 MOBO series to do so.

I do a lot of CAD and 3D work with multiple seasons running so my current Ryzen 7 7700 runs pretty good but since there are some deals going on right now
I am considering an upgrade.

Thanks in advanced for the help.

What's your use case?  Why do you feel the need to upgrade?  I'm running the 7700X in the same board.  The only viable gaming upgrade would be either of the 8 core X3D chips.  If you're rendering video on your CPU for money then I'd consider a non-X3D 12 or 16 core chip.  but other than those options I wouldn't bother. and unless you're using your CPU for anything other than gaming then dual CCD configs are a headache. even more so with X3D cache

With all the Trolls, Try Hards, Noobs and Weirdos around here you'd think i'd find SOMEWHERE to fit in!

I have not heard about the burning up issues on the Ryzen 9 9950X3D.

My Case is a Corsair Airflow 5000D
CPU cooler is a Noctua D15

and I have 10 case fans and 2 fans on the cooler.
So cooling is not and issue lol

As for the upgrade I have a friend that does similar work and he has the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and it does the raw 3D rendering about 30% faster.

So I thought If I was going to upgrade the 9950x3d would be even better.

The CAD software we use is strictly CPU on rendering, not sure why but that is what we have to use with these CNC machines.

The GPU is just for the monitor mainly when working.
I do play games on it as well when not working.

Would the Ryzen 9 9900X be a good choice or do all the 9000 series CPU have issues?
Its going for the same price as the Ryzen 7 7800X3D right now.
