Bottleneck?

This right here is why I tell people that bottleneck calculators are "worse than useless."

 

It isn't your fault. You didn't do anything wrong. But notice how that information doesn't really tell you anything? It just makes the situation even more confusing and scary than it really is.

 

If your 3D modeling can leverage the CPU (such as Blender Cycles rendering) then the 5700X can improve your performance considerably. And just in general, even not the rendering part, a more modern CPU is going to make working in any application much smoother. So for that alone, I'd recommend moving away from the old Core i5.

 

But do not worry about the "bottleneck" here. Unless you want to dig into the weeds, just drop that word from your vocabulary and focus on the actual performance you will receive from the upgrade, rather than whether or not you have inadvertently "bottlenecked" something.

 

If they fit in your budget, the R7 5700X and RTX 3060 12GB can be a great combo for a 3D rendering system.

Hello! I'm an architecture student using an i5-4460 paired with a gt1030 and 2 1080p monitors. I'm planning on upgrading to a ryzen 7 5700x paired with a 12gb 3060. However, I've gone through a couple of bottleneck calculators and it looks like I could have a bottleneck on any of the configurations. I'm guessing those are based on gaming performance, but that's not my main goal. I'd be using programs like archicad, revit, D5 render, twinmotion and sketchup. I know I must upgrade the GPU for 3d modeling and rendering but, is the CPU upgrade worth it for these kind of apps? Find attached the calculators results

Those "calculators" are essentially worthless. Your proposed combination is better than what you have now, so go with it.

They generally apply in a gaming context at the listed resolutions, but can be treated as equally applicable in your case. One on the right shows how much your current CPU would cap your GPU performance at, on the left - idk, but I think it means "no 4k" for the GPU; the CPU is a perfect pair. I.e., you'll be fine at 1080 high - 1440p low in gaming. For CAD, this is less relevant as yours is measured in your time spent, not FPS. CPU - same.

*using non-conversational, sketch-level language to gesture at structure and direction.

I would not give these kind of bottleneck calculators even that much credit.

Sweet! That's a huge upgrade, I hope you are getting at least 32GB of RAM as well. Put your OS and other programs on an NVMe SSD and you are going to have your mind blown.
