Re-paste

Go to solution Solved by jaslion,

Plenty more than needed but that doesnt matter.

Like gigabyte legit SMEARS their cards in paste to not use thermal pads. Basicallt like using 4 tubes of mx6 :p.

Its fine itll just be a bit messy but that doesnt matter.

You fixed your temps so thats a job done well id say. That and you properly made sure ALL of the die is covered which is very important for bare die chips without a heat spreader as the cooler mountinf pressure is much lower and wont always push the thermal paste to fill all the voids.

So tldr excessive yes, does it matter? No. A job well done none the less.

it won't hurt it, but yes... excessive and a waste.

Too much thermal paste doesn’t exist, it’s non-conductive so even if it spills over some transistors/capacitors/… you’ll be fine. Only a pain next time when you have to work on it, and remove a bunch of old paste.

You should see how much thermal paste they use in gaming laptops. Also a whole lot and in my case it covered a bunch of capacitors nearby.

Main machine:  Ryzen 9 9950x3D - Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5070ti OC 16GB  - Gigabyte X870E AORUS ELITE WIFI7 - 64GB DDR5 6000MHz CL30 - Seasonic FOCUS GX-1000 ATX3.1 - Lancool 207 digital - Artic liquid freezer III Pro - 2 x 27" AOC Q27G4X - WD SN850X 2TB - 2 x WD SN770 2TB

Remote client:  Razer Blade 15 (2020) base - i7 10750H - GeForce RTX 2060 - 16GB DDR4 3000MHz (only used for decoding streams from main machine)

Was seeing some high idle temps might have been due to zero fan at idle... Took it apart for a re-paste and put as much as I saw on it originally. Temps are pretty good now especially during gaming. Was this to much though (artic mx6).

About as meme-ish as Linuns dropping things.

Suitable for Off Topic.

And no, you didn't see even 10% of that originally 😜
