sorry for shoddy title dont really know what else to call it.

So at the beginning of the month i had to RMA my GPU. This is my first time having done something like this. Today i got the email they are sending it back to me. So i called to see what had to be done and the guy on the phone told me they had to replace to GPU Die. They didn't say much else other then that it doesn't seem like any of the traces on the board were burnt or anything and that the power 12volt power was reported to be fine as well. So i know they usually put paperwork in with the rma on its way back to tell you what they did. Does it have any suggestion on how to avoid something like this happening again. Is there any recommendations you guys have?

Is it possible i need to replace my PSU? Or get a UPS to provide power stability?

My current power supply is the aours 1200 watt one with the screen and each of the power cables has a little capacitor added on it which i assume is there for power delivery stability?

There isn't really anything you can do to prevent damage to the GPU Die.  The only real thing is to keep temperatures within check but this shouldn't be an issue on a new card.

Things happen, computers parts die or come faulty 🙂  Nothing you can do.

Welcome to the forums!
The next steps are "install GPU, update drivers, test to make sure it works"

What card is this? I'm kind of surprised that they went to the trouble to replace the die. That's a fiddly process and takes time. Usually they just verify it's busted, then ship you a refurb card. What they do with your old card is kinda up to them. Sometimes they will just trash it, sometimes they'll fix it and put it back in the stream as a refurb.

I have never gotten paperwork on the actual defect in any of my RMAs

Get lucky. A failing GPU die is just luck of the draw. We call it the Silicon Lottery. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Best thing to do is make sure you are buying from a company with a decent warranty and decent customer service.

nah, this isn't a power problem, it's a manufacturing defect.
A UPS is always a nice to have, especially if you have a high end rig. But unless you have bad power (unreliable power grid or even just living in a really old building), it's not really a requirement.
