I have a 4k 180hz VRR monitor I was gifted, I have been using it for my PS5. However I’m building a PC again after around a year. I’m unsure whether to buy a 4070super/5070 and a 1440p monitor. Or use the ~£250 I’d spend on the monitor to upgrade my GPU to a 4080 Super, would 4k120 be achievable with medium / high setttings and DLSS Quality? Or should I stick with 1440p.

As someone who owns a highly overclocked RTX 4080 and a 9800X3D, there is no way I would play at 4k..

I have a 1440p 240hz monitor and I feel that the 4080 barely meets my expectations with DLSS on Quality and most settings on high.

I was actually planning to use a 5090 with my 1440p monitor.

I would say that you should indeed spend the extra money on a faster GPU however, now that Black Friday is just around the corner.

Monitor can always be bought later and you might find that a 4080 Super or equivalent meets your 4k 120hz needs with adjusted settings.

I know this is not a definite answer, I am just thinking out loud a little.

Personally, I will stick with my 1440p 240hz monitor for a long time.  The clarity of 1440p is perfect for me and I do enjoy the higher framerate I can get at 1440p over 4k.
