I have a chromebook where the screen and hinges and everything in pretty much broken down.

However, not long ago I recalled when I checked my Google drive, I had this over 2 hour video recording file called Screencast.web file that is over 200mb.  The thing is many times overnight I would turn power off my Chromebook and just leave it there.  However, I think sometimes the screen would turn back on.  The thing is when scrolling through the video, it does show that I'm offline and not connected to the internet.  On the Chromebook when I am not active on it or just close the lid, the wifi would go off.

Now during this recording, it seems to show the wallpaper and screen setting options.  Then a bit later, it would show a box show up that says Podcasts you have saved for later.  Then it would go to default wallpaper option.  Then the mouse cursor would move around.  Then a bit later it would show I'm on the Privacy and Security screen and it show message of Verify Your Identity, ChromeOS would like to verify it is you and ask for the password.  Then as I scroll through the rest of the recording, that's how it is.

Does anyone have a clue how this happened?  The thing is from looking at the time stamp, I'm not sure if it was early morning or late at night.

The thing is the mouse cursor moves several times during this recording.  Is it possible for this to happen if I closed the lid on my Chromebook and it starts to click itself?  The thing is no one has access to my chromebook.  Is it possible my Chromebook was hacked?  I have since did a power wash a few times.  However, I have no idea where this recording and how it even took place a while back.  I know that if a laptop is hacked or has malware, that person can control you mouse and move things.  Does this sound like this is what happened here?  The thing is it did get to the require password for the settings but nothing really happens after that.  I can't post this video here for you to check right since the video is really long?

Does sound like someone is on the chromebook yes. If its an old no longer updated one it has quite a few vulnerabilities that prople can easily exploit.

The screengrab may have just been an accident.

Anyway format and stop using it if its out of support

The thing is nobody had access to this chromebook though.  The video is an hour or so recording, it showed the time but not sure if it was in the morning or at night.  Either way, I would be in the apartment during the time.  The thing is since I have the lid closed on this chromebook a lot, is it possible before I closed the lid, I clicked the button for it to record?  What about when I close the lid and the screen just click the buttons?  Or is that not possible?

The issue here is it goes from one thing to another and the mouse cursor actually moves during a part in the video.  I am 100% sure nobody had access to my Chromebook during this recording.

The thing is if the video recording was by mistake, how is this file in my google drive though?  Is that normal?  I would have thought this file would be in my downloads folder and only way for it to show up in my Google drive if I manually uploaded this file to it?

The other thing is I have a ton of chrome tabs opened.  So because of that, the Chromebook would act erratic.  So would that have caused it?

Is there a way to post the video of it here for others to check it out somehow?  The video is over 200mb though and over an hour.

Sounds like your Chromebook got haunted lol

if you’d like to post a Google Drive link or maybe embed a YouTube video that would be a great way for us to take a look. The only way I can think for your mouse to be moving would be if someone somehow gained remote access, but if the WiFi is hard coded to turn off when the lid closes I find it hard to believe that’s the case.

also, how old is it, and how long since the last time it was updated?
