Hello everyone!

So im planning my new build lately and came across a question.

I have the ROG GR701 Full Tower case and i want to vertical mount my ROG 5080.

I understand that the case itself supports vertical mounting with GPU holder.

Question here is, is this enough to make sure the GPU is safe from wobbles or earthquakes? Or is a third party mounting braket that has a back plate suggested? Also, does the PCIE cable need to be mounted on the bottom of the case or can it just attach it to the GPU and leave it in mid air?

Thanks in advance!!

Cheers!

depending on the wobble & earthquake's intensity and effect on your house and in conjunction, your pc case, nothing is really safe from it.

That's a pretty silly question tbh.
1. Do you wobble your PC that often ?

2. You do realize that normally, GPU is installed horizontally, which pretty much makes a lot of it's weight hang on just the PCIE pins area. Right?

Usually the backplate on vertical mount kit never touches the GPU.

Since usually the kit is floating in the case, and often made using not so thick material, it's there for extra rigidity for the kit and act as an extra support so the kit less likely to bend / break due to GPU weight + gravity.

Not to mention when the user is installing the gpu, they will push downward.

It's like comparing these two type of wall shelf bracket :

I'd say depends on the implementation of the so called vertical mounting itself.
