Replacing OneDrive

Hello all,

 

My OneDrive subscription is coming to an end next month and I don't intend on renewing, I have a few issues with OneDrive, the three main ones being privacy concerns; slowness and a general clunky feeling.

 

I also have some privacy concerns in general (but am unfortunatly not at a stage where I can self host just yet)

 

I was wondering if anyone has any reccomendations. On my main PC I run Windows 11 and I run Ubuntu on my laptop, so ideally something which is going to work accross the two (I currently have paid for a perpetual InSync license to use OneDrive on Ubuntu and it has worked flawlessly).

 

I've considered using Proton drive however getting it to work on Ubuntu seems like it could be a little hassle, requiring the use of RSync (I'm not too farmiliar with it, I'd need to exclude certain files for syncing as I don't want to download everything to my laptop)

 

 

Does anyone have any services they could reccomend? I'm based in the UK so ideally something with European hosting.

Fancy some tech adventure? Get yourself an older/used workstation and set up Nextcloud. Use it in/for your home situation so you have at least some backup for when 1D ends. This buys you a little time switching over and gives some experience for self hosting.
