Kernel power Error 41 please help

Go to solution Solved by Natural_Artichoke,

Try this:
Switch to Balanced > set CPU minimum to 100% and maximum to 100% > if it stops crashing, the issue is in power state switching.

If it still crashes, uninstall Lenovo Vantage and leave only the default Windows power plans

Hello all,

Sorry if the format sucks. I've never done one of these posts before. I have an issue with my Lenovo Legion 5 laptop (2021 I think). I am getting a reoccurring critical error 41 (kernel power). This only happens when I put the laptop in balanced or power saving mode (it's perfectly fine in performance mode). The system black screens then reboots like nothing happened. This happens occasionally during long gaming sessions in reasonablely intensive games while the device is in performance mode but I'm not sure if that's a separate issue. The event happens very shortly after setting the device to power saving or balanced mode every time even if I'm not doing anything. The error occurs when the laptop is plugged in and on wall power. I have tried almost every fix I can think of. At this point I'm desperate to solve this issue because I do not want to buy a new laptop and I need it fully functioning because I'll be headed to college very soon.Below is a list of specs and solutions I've tried along with programs if those matter.

System specs:

Legion 5 15ACH6A

Ryzen 5000 series 5800H with Radeon Graphics

32GB SODIMM RAM 3200MT/s

Radeon RX 6600M

2 1TB WDC PC SN730

Windows 11 pro 24H2

MediaTek Wi-Fi 6 MT7921

Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller

1920x1080 165Hz display

OEM battery

OEM 300w charger

Programs (skip if this doesn't matter)

Webroot

Steam (lots of games for that)

Discord

Firefox

Edge

Epic games

Riot

Winearo Tweaker

HW monitor

Zoom

Logitech g hub

Steelseries gg

Streaming apps

Lenovo vantage

Microsoft defender (mostly disabled)

Things I've tried:

-Windows RAM test

-Checked SSD health and firmware (both were good)

-Ensured that BIOS was up to date

-Disabled fast boot

-Tried both hybrid and discrete only GPU modes

-Checked thermals (good the laptop doesn't throttle, CPU runs at 100°c during multi core cinebench but I read the chip is supposed to run hot)

-Reset BIOS

-Reset power modes

-updated GPU drivers

-recently installed windows

-Command prompt file checker (sfc/scan now)

-Fully cleaned and re-pasted the system

If anyone has any ideas or fixes please tell me I will try anything. Any help is GREATLY appreciated

do you have a spare SSD laying around? or even a USB stick of at least 64gb? i think it's a good idea to fresh install windows on a spare drive, boot it up WITHOUT INSTALLING ANY SOFTWARE and change the power option to power save then check if the computer crashes. (you can use rufus to make a "windows to go" USB stick which is a way to run a full fledged windows system from a usb stick)

what did you do with"winereo tweaker"? i see it's a software that tinkers with the windows registry by allowing you to change stuff around the system, which could be scary good at breaking stuff if something goes wrong

i don't think OP has the time to switch the minimum and maximum usage of CPU, sounds like a mix of a software issue and a power/voltage issue to me but it's hard to troubleshoot

Hey guys,

I decided to try Artichokes fix first since it was easier and didn't require me setting up a windows OS. Set minimum CPU power to 100 in all modes and it seems to be running stable. I also fired up a game of Terraria as an easy stress test and it ran in both modes on and off wall power. I will report back if the problem shows up I'm gonna try running it in lower modes for a few days. I really appreciate the help guys thank you!

Also just in case you were curious y0ur I use Winearo to disable things like Cortana and other windows error telemetry things aswell as to restore the full context menus. Not a big fan of all the windows bloat and assistant junk.

ok so it's clearly an issue with the power plans, glad it's software and not hardware tbh i think that this issue might get fixed as soon as you receive a windows update like the ones that come every second tuesday of the month
