Recently started using Linux

For almost a month now i've been using Linus ermmm Linux and been enjoying less interruptions. First week was trying out a lot of different Linux versions till i settled on Fedora Workstation on my PC and laptop. My pc has a 5700X3D and a RX9070, laptop has a 4600u. I also have a Rog Ally on that i've got Bazzite Gnome installed. I did try SteamOS and Bazzite KDE on the Ally but i had problems with connecting a monitor threw a dock. Bazzite Gnome fixed that for me. As i also use my Ally in docked mode that was paramount.

 

Actually i even got a bit lucky with a Ugreen 20000mAh 45watt powerbrick for my Ally. When i got it i found out it only charged at 22,5watt on non-apple devices, but with Bazzite Gnome it actually uses the full wattage. 'Geluk bij een ongeluk' as we say it in Dutch, which equates to 'a happy accident'. Wasn't planning on getting one, but when i saw it on sale i bought it. 

 

So far i like Fedora Workstation, i do miss a few luxuries AMD driver features brings but games work flawlessly. It installed and worked out of the box. Just had to do system updates to get the right drivers. Updating when you yourself want to and not when W11 demands it is a treat. Which was a big problem on the Ally with W11, it was often hanging on 100% finished with updating for over a hour.

 

Now if i need to put the Ally down for a short while and put it on standby resuming by clicking on the power button is really easy. Also it early days but the Ally seems more stable when set to 7watts. Played a bit threw Bioshock that way.

 

The one thing i noticed with Fedora is that i can't see Steam when it's minimized. I just have to press the Steam app in the bar to make it pop up again.

Which luxuries in particular? If you're looking for something like undervolting, give CoreCtrl a try.

It should be noted that CoreCtrl is in maintenance mode, in other words it wont see any major updates or additional hardware support.

Some known alternatives are LACT and TuxClocker.

If you don't have status tray icons do look at https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/615/appindicator-support/, it's maintained by Canonical (Ubuntu).
GNOME doesn't directly support it but a lot of software uses it including Steam, they just like to pretend they are the only Desktop Environment.
