Upgrading current computer.

Morning I am looking for some advice!

 

I am upgrading my computer soon as it’s getting a little old and I am not able to play the games I would like to at the resolutions. I am also study cyber security so running multi virtual machines is a must which my currant PC really struggles with. My update budget is very flexible around £900.

 

My Currant spec:

 

CPU: Ryzen 5 3600

GPU: Nvidia GTX 1660 super

Motherboard: Asus ROG B550-f gaming.

Power supply: Corsiar BM1000x (Just upgraded).

RAM: Mircon DDR4 3600 CL16 16GB

 

I am aiming for 1440p and occasionally 4K both just 60Hz ,I manly play open world games like RDR2 though would like to look at other games. What would you recommend upgrading to? Should I upgrade the motherboard to a AM5 one or stick with a AM4 CPU? Is a 5070ti sensible for my goal? I am located in the UK and I am also open to buying used!

I agree with this from a base standpoint, but if you need more cores or RAM for your VM's (you don't specify the extent)... may need to bump budget or reduce GPU to accommodate.

 

Or grabbing a 5900XT for 16cores will be great for gaming as well, just missing the 3D cache.

I agree with the PCPP list above, with a similar caveat around the virtual machines and cores...

 

I would suggest however if they need the cores, go AM5, and sell the existing board/ram etc to help cover the cost difference.

 

5900x is not going to be a patch on a 5800x3d in gaming, not least the missing cache but the added die to die latency hurts performance.

 

Given this is home-gamer stuff rather than a professional environment though, i would imagine the 5800x3d is fine.
