So I was revamping my PC, and that included taking out the GPU. So I also re-pasted the GPU as well. And now I am receiving beeps from the speaker that signal VGA issue.

Things I tried to fix it:

  • Re-seated the GPU and power cables
  • Re-re-pasted the GPU using less thermal paste and reasonably tighter mounting pressure
  • Re-mounting with less mounting prrssure than both previous mounts
  • Letting the GPU sit in the PC for several hours and still same issue

Any ideas/suggestions?

If even a small component got damaged on the board it’s possible that it could cause a failure, I’ve repasted a lot of graphics cards, a thin coat is all that’s needed and generally the cooler screws have stops in them, I would check and then re-adjust all that if your spread or contact tension isn’t correct.

Also, take the card out again and make sure there’s no trash or dust in the PCIe slot, use some canned air if you notice anything. And check the spring contacts and make sure one of them isn’t stuck in the connector where it won’t make contact with the contacts on the card.

@atxcyclist @Sawa Takahashi

My friends I have done quite a blunder.

Turns out, it was 1000% GPU issue, and the reason it was GPU issue, is because I haven't noticed that the GPU power connector from the PSU side has disconnected.

-> And I haven't checked the PSU side, because I didn't unplug the PSU side I didn't bother checking PSU, since I thought it was plugged in already.

The PC anti-climatically powered on with no problems after the correction:

  • At least it's a silly problem like this and not an actual problem I suppose

I thought about suggesting check the power, but then thought, "no, that's too obvious"...😆

That’s great that it was an easy problem to fix.
