CPU upgrade

That is fair. You are gaming at 1080 which means you're asking a LOT more from your CPU than the GPU which is a solid 1440p card. You *could* upgrade the monitor, or, if you like 1080, then I'd definitely rec going with AM5.

Specs now: 5070ti, 5800x under LiquidFreezer 3, 32gb 3200 cl16 (16x2), 1080x2560 200hz
Usecase:  Gaming and working with video-editing & photoshop (i think work-wise my cpu is enough, so gaming is the main focus)
Games i play: Rocket League, The Finals, Hunt Showdown, Destiny 2, Cyberpunk, Siege (so mostly comp games)

A few months ago i got myself a 5070ti, and my cpu is not good enough for this card
Im thinking about upgrading my PC some time in future, and i have a few variants:
1. stick with AM4 socket (for now) and swap my CPU with 5700x3d
2. save up money and get a full-on AM5 upgrade (and im not sure what is most cost-efficient choise would be on that platform, so im open for suggestions)

Main question:
is it worth it to spend like 250-300$ to get 5700x3d now - would it be enough for 5070ti?
or do i just wait for a bunch of time to get more spare money to buy an AM5 (and what CPU would you reccomend in that case?)

Thanks in advance !

are you near a micro center? they have some pretty good AM5 bundles that you can get for a little over $300

May I ask why that is?
Does your CPU usage jump to near 100%  while the GPU is chilling or is this something you feel is going on?

Anywho, you already got a relatively strong Am4 system so the most sensible upgrade would be AM5 imo where as @strange13930 said a MicroCenter bundle would be the most cost efficient way to get into am5 where for 300 maybe 400 tops you would get a) a cpu b) ram c) motherboard and be done with it instead of (There are bundles with a 7600x3D iirc)

5700X3D will be slower in productivity than you 5800X, especially if they're long all core workloads. If you're playing at 1440p or higher I don't see the point of this sidegrade, at 1080p cache heavy games like sims or brand new games I can see maybe some justification.

I'd wait till your system ages and then just upgrade to something new entirely.

Most of the time my cpu is sitting at around 80-100% load when gaming, even at high-ultra (mixed settings), while the gpu might be at 50-60% load
Also - 5800x is hot as hell
And the only point of upgrading at the moment is to get more stable and just overall more fps in games
And sadly - no microcenters around, not in the US

I want to buy a new oled later on, but im kinda an ultra-wide enjoyer, and ultrawide oleds are expensive af
I bought my 1080x2560 200hz IPS for 200 dollars, and, well, oleds are a whole different story)
Found a few models - Titan Army for 410 dollars (hello china) and MSI 271QP X24 for 460
So as much as i would love myself a new monitor - i would say first order of operations would be to satisfy my gpu with a matching CPU, so it could feed my monitor an ammount of frames that it supports)
Playing on 1080x2560 monitor at 100-140 fps when it can go up to 200, and buying one that is harder to run (resolution-wise) and also has 240hz refreshrate - isnt what im planning to do before upgrading the CPU (to AM5, as it seems people reccomend that option)
So yeah
Also if you could suggest the best CPU for gaming in my case (and, perhaps, a bit of browsing/discord action going on the second monitor) i would gladly hear you out
Thanks to everyone once again 🙂

In fairness, OLEDs are super spendy. I just upgraded to the new 4K 27" OLED and it was nearly a grand (BIG rec for the Dell Alienware model. It's remarkably affordable and fantastic)

7600x3d is a VERY solid choice. Great place to start and there will theoretically be a generation after 9000 which can be a drop in upgrade if you ever feel like you're running out of CPU. That being said, my SO was very satisfied with an ancient 8700K paired with a 3080ti on her 49" DQHD. Once you get out of 1080, you are almost always GPU bound. We recently upgraded to a 5700x3d not because she was getting necked by the CPU, but rather the build started exhibiting some *weird* behavior.

tbh i just dont feel the need to go above 2k res, 1080p has some flaws but is also good enough for me rn
And at 2k i would say there still can be cpu bottlenecks - Rocket League is first what comes to mind, Destiny 2 is also CPU bottlenecked rn
(im playing it on Ultra using 3840x1620 res (DLDSR) for better AA)
So yeah, its for sure game specific, im the type of guy who doesnt like to lower the settings)
But getting enough FPS in games like Siege, Apex, The finals - is for sure a CPU task more then anything.
Thanks for recomending 7600x3d, my only question is -
Would 7600x3d suffer from multi-tasking (for the lack of 8 cores)
im just not that deep into the CPU world rn, and i like to browse stuff while gaming etc

Unlikely in most games. It's hyperthreaded and 12 threads should be great for a while.

As for games that are CPU hogs, that's fair. I have a 16c/32t 5950X and Division 2 will suck back >85% all core load while most other games I play will do that to 10 or so threads
