Hey folks!

I have a PC that I built in early 2023. Here are the specs:

  • Gigabyte Z690 GAMING X DDR4
  • Intel Core i5-13600K
  • Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti FE
  • Samsung 980 PRO SSD 1TB
  • Kingston FURY Beast 32GB (2x16GB) 3600MHz DDR4

What would be a reasonable GPU upgrade that would not be bottlenecked by the rest of the build? I was looking at the 5060 Ti 16GB, but not sure if it would make sense?

Thanks in advance

If you play at 1440p, this PC can handle a much faster GPU than a 5060 Ti 🙂

You care about Raytracing or Upscalling?

Location so we can check prices?

Budget: 400-500€

Games: Open-world GDRs, strategy, sports (nothing competitive tough)

Resolution: 1440p

Usage: Gaming only

Raytracing+Upscaling: nice to have

The 9060xt is a choice

FSR 4 looks as good as if not a lil better than dlss3 and 3.x and it can handle some RT

It has 16gb Vram as well and its nearly 20% (about 18% to be more precise) cheaper while being 5-7% slower

https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-rtx-5060-ti-16-gb.c4292

If you are willing to forego RT and Upscalling for pure raster then the 7800xt is barely over the 5060 Ti 16gb in price (like 10 euros) but its 20% faster

There is also the choice of used cards like @DreamCat04 mentioned where you might be able to find used cards that are better/stronger for about the same money if not a lil over

The 5060 Ti imo is a lil overpriced tho not truly bad per se

I edit my posts for so if you saw a typo.... no you didn't, you are just crazy

Thanks, this is helpful. Would all these options work properly without upgrading any other component of the build?

You didn't list your PSU, but with a 750W unit you'll easily be able to power the cards that fit into your budget. Your other components are fine for the upgrade

I have a 750W Seasonic Focus GX 80, so I should be fine

Thanks all for your help 🙏

Used RX6900XT's within your budget and are monsters. Just need to make sure your PSU's good enough as 750W is minimum but Seasonic is reliable.

Going from a 3060ti to a 6900XT would just feel bad.
Hotter room, worse RT performance.

a 9060xt 16GB is the best GPU upgrade for OP inside a reasonable price point at the current moment.

Does RT really even factor into purchase decisions for most?

And at this point yes? With how good the 9000 cards from AMD are at it, and just the inevitability of it, more and more games going forward will use it.

you need RT for games like Indiana jones and the new doom (with the new path tracing patch).

If we're being realistic, both cards are incapable of raytacing. If that is a requirement then OP can only look at the latest gen offering from Intel, AMD and NVIDIA. Raytracing tech is still progressing extremely quickly and last generation cards get left behind like milk left in sunlight on a hot summer's day.

As for OP, raytracing is only a "nice to have" I'm taking the liberty and assuming it won't be that important actually.

Context my man, never said it wasn't:

9060XT does fairly admirably for the price it's at. In CP77 gets more than 3060TI and RX6900XT with identical raytracing and upscaling. These hover around 60fps but the 9060XT gets 80~.

My advice remains unchanged. If raytracing is a need, only consider the new generations but I've found very little game's that I play that use it so might as well take up the faster rasterised performance, which is why I bought a used RX6800 and I think it's still sensible to even get that generation for cheap.
