I'm currently building PC. I've already bought almost all the parts I need except for the graphics card and the case, since I'm waiting for GPU prices to drop a bit. So I've been storing the parts I bought in a safe place in my closet for about 3 months now. Is it okay for PC parts to stay unused for a long time like that  for example, for several months  without being assembled? Or is that kind of storage harmful for the components? They're all still in their original boxes and haven't been opened yet.  Also, some of the boxes got slightly squished from being stored for a while.. Is that okay too, as long as the components are still in their original packaging and haven't been opened yet..

A friend of mine says "I've heard PSUs do degrade over time when not being used" like what the hell? Is this even true? lol
Like how come it gets degraded when its an l new unit , still sealed and hasn't been opened yet? Haha

What would the difference be with the components sitting in your closet compared to a warehouse or in a store waiting to be purchased?

Your components will be fine 🙂 Dont worry about it.

Thank u for your answer as it is such a releif fr.. it's just cuz I been told by someone on a discord server that PSu might get degraeded over-time for not being used just as much as the AIO as mentioned something about the liquid inside of the cooler that it could like get rotten for not being used, but I was like howcome? they could stay on shelves or in warehouses for months up to even a year or to so how come? lol

whoever told you this likely has no clue what they're talking about. This is something that could theoretically be years in the making type of event, not a few months.

No, but a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) will.

The battery will die if disconnected too long.

Yeah, dont listen to that person.  They dont know what they are talking about.

Your components are fine 🙂

A PSU can sit in a warehouse or shelf for months before it gets sold, the warranty on a PSU is from when you bought it!  Not from when it was manufactured.

So if a PSU was sitting in a warehouse for 7 months, the warranty would still begin from when you bought the product.

The liquid inside of an AIO cooler can definitely get worse over time but it would do that even if used. This has nothing to do with storage or not using the item but everything to do with the coolant used, or the lack of proper coolant used by the manufacturer.
MSI had a huge issue with their R lineup of AIO's back in 2022/2023.

Here you can see what happens when an AIO clogs up from bad quality coolant.

But again, this has absolutely NOTHING to do with storage or not using the item.

I don't see an issue with this. Large corporations and datacenters keep spare parts and components around for years without issue to swap in in the event of failure events.

Yep 🙂

I have a GTX 680 that I bought in 2014 and I put it away in 2017.  It worked perfectly fine in 2024 when I tried it again.

Same with old PSU's that have been sitting for years.

all components the same or just GPUs are durable enough to handle being stored for a long time? lol

I will say it makes a bit of sense if I already start using it but like it is still an all new AIO, all sealed and hasn't been opened yet lol.. literally ahaven't touched it yet so how come the liquid will get rotten if it hasn't been opened nor worked yet lol

Because an AIO is a closed loop system and it doesn't matter if you use it or not for bad coolant to clog up.

Its just basic physics and chemistry.  Corrosion can happen, different products can react negatively with one another over time and start to form solid chunks.

There could be other things going on inside the loop as well like bacteria or other contaminants in the loop from production.

Take a car that has been sitting in a garage for 12-15 years without being used.

That brake fluid, oil and radiator coolant definitely needs changing.

It won't get rotten, stop asking why it does.

All your parts are completely fine.  There are no twisted questions to ask about why not

Now, waiting for you prices to drop while having all the other parts is.... Less than smart.

Is a small price drop worth not using your brand new computer?   $100 is worth what?  A day?   For me, an hour, since I make that.   You?  Months is insane.

Buy your gpu and case and build and enjoy your machine

Waiting makes no sense whatsoever

Including AIOs? like an AIO can be stored for a long time without any issues tho? or the liquid inside might get rotten?

only issue with an AIO I could see is if the liquid separates itself inside.

which is kinda impossible so basically it can still be stored with the rest of the components with no issue right؟

Yes it can 🙂

Remember, AIO's sit on shelves or warhouses just as much as any other component.

It will be fine.
