Budget (including currency): not much in AUD

Country: Australia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: literally a pc to connect to the TV for pulling things off a nas or for other online media content that doesn't work on my cheap android tv.

Other details: must have wifi and a hdmi. i have low standards.

Long story short, I want to build a media pc. I don't want to spend too much money, want it to be current stuff so i can run windows 11. Local retailers have maxsun boards available, in particular the MAXSUN H610 666 WIFI6. Yes i know it's DDR4, I dont care, i'll get cheap SH ram from marketplace. It literally only has to display videos and boot windows. likely pair with a 12100 or similar. I'd like it to last a few years(I have a mac mini thats 13 odd years old and possibly could have worked but software wasn't great).

has anyone used maxsun boards? good, bad, ugly, indifferent? I only really care about if it's bad. there will be no OCing or even a graphics card installed. the answer is probably it's fine, but just want to check.

I can get an MSI for not a whole lot more(10 australian pesos), but i appreciate the wifi antenna ports off the back of the mobo, i have a funny set up in my house and i think antennas will assist(although i could be off the mark here, i'm a dork, but not particularly a wifi dork)

plznthanks

Won't a cheap mini PC be better suited for that usage ?

probably, but my cheap mini pc options are limited to things that aren't good(heaps of pre win 11 mini pcs around for about $200(meh)) or things that aren't cheap(heaps of goodish nucs/HP/dell things that are being sold for too much money.). There's also a rad fanless case locally i've got my eyes on because it is aesthetically pleasing(probably should have said that to start).

also i like to fiddle with things and mini pc's are boring.

building new ain't really cheap, especially with SFF, and most new chips will be overkill for your use,..an used SFF prebuilt would be the cheapest option imo

Really prewin11 isn't really an issue as long as Win10 can run, or even Linux

If you really want a DIY then smt like this, not sure what your case is like tho (is it SFF ? mATX ?) I'd avoid SFX as SFX PSU are absolutely scalped...

true, it is overkill.

it's a streacom fc5, obscure as sh*t, has funky requirements, but i already have a suitable PSU/adaptor because reasons. i get win 11(and 10) for free through work, i kind of want to get the licence to carry forward.

basically only need mobo/cpu, i have many ssd and second hand ram is very available(i mean my nas does not need 32gb of it anyway). the above looks good, but no wifi 😞 (neeeeeeed it. renting and cat cables can't get anywhere near the location of the pc) cheaper to buy any mobo with wifi than without and then get pci risers/wifi card or other additionally(oddball wifi m.2))

Yeah then just add any Wifi pcie card, no need for M2,  its like A$30 and will fit any board

yeha but that's not a worthwhile option in the case i'm using, hence the requirement for wifi.......

my question was whether the maxsun was any good

regardless i bought a bunch of other things that dont match any of my suggestions because i'm impatient 😅

obnoxious media pc will live later today.
