Overclocking 9800X3D

I’ve seen many different guides to overclocking,

 

I’ve got the ASUS X870-E Hero,

 

And wanted to do PBO,

 

10x Multiplier with +200MHz

 

and then Curve offset of -20 to undervolt,

 

Would this be sufficient?

Yup, that would be decent.  I ran that setup for many months    I did -25 on the Curve Optimizer, rest was similar.

This should give you 5425Mhz up from 5225Mhz stock with slightly better temperatures.

Sufficient for what?

 

Do -30 for curve optimizer.  If it can't do it, return the chip.

I can hit 5.6Ghz and its completely stable at -25 CO... But at -30 CO it is not.

So you are saying I should return the chip?

I would if I were the OP, but it's too late for you I assume. 

 

Both of my 7800X3D's and my 5600X3D all do stable -30, but it sounds like you're happy with the 5.6GHz either way, so not a huge deal.

I just put together my 9800X3D rig recently...and finally getting the DRAM overclock stabilized.

 

Have you noticed any performance drop in your 0.1% or 1% lows with the 10x Multiplier and +200 MHz?

Some say the average/max FPS got a nice healthy bump, but the 1% lows took a hit.

The difference between -30 and -25 is so small though.  

I think 5.6Ghz up from 5.2Ghz is alright... I dont feel like I need more performance.

As long as my clocks are good and temps are fine, I dont care if it would only be stable at -15 CO.  I'm not running for world records here.

Awesome!  Beast of a CPU.

What do you mean by dram finally stabilized?

 

Were you manually setting timings, or having trouble with expo?

None of my Zen 3 parts are stable at -30, -25 is good though. A steep negative curve will push core clocks higher without the power to back it. At least with 9800X3D you can tune power settings.

What does that mean?  Without the power to back it up?

5800X3D has low PPT/TDC/EDC, so does 7800X3D too I guess. 9800X3D lets you increase those, and gives you the +200 through PBO, just like their regular CPUs.

 

It seems a lot of people use the curve to lower temps, but that is not what it is for, it is also not an undervolt. You are just changing the VF curve.

Yeah, manually setting the timings, DRAM frequency, voltages, and FCLK.

I went to manual tweaking after realizing the CPU could not run with the EXPO profile (DDR5-6400 CL30-39-39-102-1.40V).

Computer was BSOD'ing, games were crashing with memory access and corruption errors. Memory stability tests would fail minutes in.

DDR5-6200 was the happy frequency.

Try bumping VSOC from 1.25 to 1.275, VDD IOD I run at 1060 for over 6200. I run my FCLK at 2133.
